Mod GRF 1-29 is the research-market name for a modified version of the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone-releasing hormone, without an albumin-binding group.
The modified peptide comes from ConjuChem in Montreal. Its 2005 paper described CJC-1295 as a tetrasubstituted hGRF(1-29) with an added lysine-maleimide group that binds serum albumin and keeps the peptide in plasma for days (Jetté et al., 2005). Mod GRF 1-29, also sold as CJC-1295 without DAC, is that substituted 29-residue peptide with no albumin anchor. Without the anchor it lacks the mechanism behind CJC-1295’s 5.8 to 8.1 day half-life in human testing.
The human data belong to the albumin-binding version. Two randomized, placebo-controlled trials in healthy adults found single CJC-1295 injections raised growth hormone for six days or more and IGF-1 for 9 to 11 days (Teichman et al., 2006), and a follow-up found natural growth hormone pulses persisted (Ionescu and Frohman, 2006). As of October 2026, ClinicalTrials.gov lists no registered trial of Mod GRF 1-29 itself.
Mod GRF 1-29 is not an FDA-approved drug, and WADA prohibits it at all times as a growth hormone-releasing hormone analogue under section S2.2.4.
WADA’s 2026 list covers GHRH and its analogues, naming CJC-1295, sermorelin and tesamorelin as examples, and states that the class is not limited to named substances (WADA). Sermorelin (Geref, discontinued in 2008) and tesamorelin (Egrifta) hold or held FDA approvals; Mod GRF 1-29 has none.
Naming is the main risk with this peptide. In 2009 the Norwegian Doping Control Laboratory analyzed a product submitted by police and customs and found a 29-amino-acid amidated peptide consistent with one then marketed as CJC-1295 (Henninge et al., 2010). Vials labelled CJC-1295, CJC-1295 without DAC and Mod GRF 1-29 can therefore hold the same molecule or different ones. A mass spectrometry result shows whether the albumin-binding group is present; a label cannot.
